Children of Parents with a Mental Illness – www.copmi.net.au Hi, I’m Heather, and my dad has the mental illness ‘bipolar disorder’. Hi, I’m Alex. My dad has been diagnosed with the mental illness of ‘schizophrenia’. We’ve been working on this video series for a while and I chose not to show my face to keep my story private. So we’ve got some actors to show you these videos – Matthew and Amalia. I found it really hard to find
information when I was growing up, because at the time I was feeling quite confused and I was
worried about my dad. What really helped me was when I could get good information that made sense. Yeah, I felt the same as well. I was worried about myself a bit. I wanted some more information about possibly what would happen to me as I
get older. Like, that kind of information would have made me more comfortable and worry less. You might be anxious or you know worried and quite concerned
about your parent. Watching these videos might put you at
ease. You can watch them again and again as many times as you like you know so just let it kinda sink in. Watch it again if you forgot what it means. Yep. It’s a really good starting point for

discover more if you’d like to. I’ve been able to share my experiences and they’ve gone into the script, and so these videos are from an authentic and true experience mine as well as others.
